Cricket Writers on TV: England v India preview, plus the latest big stories
Last Updated: 05/07/14 5:13pm
Can England repeat their 2011 whitewash of India?
With the first Test – live on Sky Sports 2 on Wednesday – just days away, Paul Allott and his Cricket Writers on TV guests will assess the prospects of Alastair Cook’s side in the main event of the Test summer.
After last month’s 1-0 series defeat to Sri Lanka, there is plenty of room for improvement so we’ve invited Vic Marks, of the Observer, The Daily Telegraph’s Derek Pringle and The Mail on Sunday’s Sam Peters to run the rule over England as well as their opponents.
Only three of India’s touring party – MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir and Ishant Sharma - have played Test cricket in England before and the remainder of the squad have only had two three-day games to prepare for the five-day challenges ahead.
But in former England supremo Duncan Fletcher, India have a coach not only with an expert understanding of home conditions but a great man-motivator who has ridden out some tough times with a team packed full of greats and who now is ready to unleash his battery of young talent against Cook’s crew.
As ever, our guests will also discuss the big stories from another turbulent – and action-packed – week in cricket including the fallout from Lou Vincent’s admission of match-fixing and subsequent life ban.
Plus, we’ll look back on Saturday’s star-studded clash between the MCC and the Rest of the World at Lord’s where Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne go head-to-head as opposing captains.
So make sure you join Paul – plus Vic, Derek and Sam – at 9am on Sky Sports 2 HD this Sunday from 9am.
