England's one-day international against Australia on January 28 will be the first competitive sporting fixture at the new Perth Stadium.

It had initially been expected that an Aussie Rules match would open the stadium but that honour will now fall to cricket, with the fifth and final ODI between the sides taking place there.

Final construction and safety checks are now back on schedule.

Cricket Australia had hoped the third Ashes Test could be played at the new Perth Stadium, nicknamed The Crabpot by locals.

The third Test, which begins in Perth on December 9, will now be the final England v Australia cricket match at the WACA.
