England captain Alastair Cook insists Nick Compton and Joe Root will both get the opportunity to press their claims for a Test berth in the upcoming two warm-up games on the tour of India.
But while the Somerset batsman, who enjoyed a stellar domestic season back in England, does have experience on his side, Cook insists age won't make a difference when it comes to picking who plays.
"He wouldn't be in the squad if we didn't think he was ready to play," Cook said on young Yorkshireman Root. "They're at different stages of their career.
"One's far more experienced and has got more runs behind him; the other one's a lot younger and has impressed everyone at every stage of his career."
