The Sussex ace is not featuring in the current ICC Champions Trophy for England and so can concentrate on preparing for the Tests.
Asked what he is looking to do before the start of the Ashes, he replied: "My preparations start pretty much today really, four weeks until that first ball's bowled.
"So a couple of championship games to go (with Sussex), I'll have a few sessions with (England coaches) Bruce French and Graham Gooch away from the cameras which is also quite nice as well.
"And also physically I'll be able to get in the gym and make sure that four weeks' time, I'm firing on all cylinders, so looking forward to that."
England laid down a marker for the forthcoming clashes with Australia when beating the old enemy by 48 runs in their Champions Trophy opener.
Prior added: "Winning is important, it doesn't matter who you are playing against. With everything to come this summer, that was a huge game. I know the guys involved will not be looking at that, they will be solely focused on the Champions Trophy.
"It was the first taste of what will be a very exciting summer."
Asked what he made of Australia from watching their defeat, he said: "It is tricky to tell because the format is very different to Test cricket and they've got a different make-up to their one-day side.
"What was more important looking at how England were getting on - the performance of Jimmy Anderson and the like.
"This summer it's very important to focus on what we're doing as an England cricket team and the individuals involved are focused on (this).
"The good thing is we feel confident in both areas (of orthodox and reverse swinging of the ball). Our bowlers have the skill to execute the plans with either skill."
