England trail Australia 4-2 on points in the 2015 Women’s Ashes series heading into the four-day Test at Canterbury, beginning on Tuesday.

With four points up for grabs for the winner, England can put themselves into a commanding position ahead of three Twenty20 Internationals later this month that complete the multi-format series.

We profile five English players that could have a major say in this week’s Test...

Heather Knight

England vice-captain Heather Knight could hold the key to England’s hopes of winning the only Test in the 2015 Women’s Ashes following her heroics against Australia two years ago.

Knight recorded the third-highest score for England in Women’s Ashes Test history when she scored 157 from 338 deliveries in the 2013 encounter at Wormsley.

Her three other Test innings have yielded only 41 runs in total, and the 24-year-old heads into the showdown at Canterbury off the back of consecutive knocks of 38 in the last two One Day Internationals.

England’s inspirational captain Charlotte Edwards has a higher average in Test cricket than in any other format of the game.

The evergreen 35-year-old has a Test high of 117 and an average of 45.69 from 41 innings over 22 matches.

The Kent batter scored an unbeaten 114 in the one-off Ashes Test in Sydney three-and-a-half years ago and will be hoping for more of the same in Canterbury.

Sarah Taylor

Wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor has yet to hit top form in the Series but will look to build on a solid performance in the one-off Test against India last year.

The 2014 ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year took three catches in the match with India at Wormsley last August and also recorded her Test-high score of 40 in the contest.

Taylor has 14 catches and two stumpings in her seven-Test career to date and could play a pivotal role with both bat and gloves if England are to triumph over the tourists.

Jenny Gunn

Jenny Gunn heads into the Test brimming with confidence after surpassing 200 international wickets courtesy of two dismissals against Australia in the last ODI.

Gunn, who made her England debut in 2004, was excellent on her last Test outing. The 29-year-old hit 62 not out with the bat before claiming the prize wicket of Mithali Raj as she recorded career-best Test bowling figures of 5-19 in the first innings of the six-wicket defeat against India.

Fran Wilson

Fran Wilson is undoubtedly the form player coming into the Canterbury Test match.

Wilson has never played international Test cricket but has been in good form for Middlesex, scoring 45 in a recent county outing against Yorkshire.

The 23-year-old followed that up with scores of 64 and 55 for the England Academy side in consecutive warm-up games against the tourists to force her way into the senior squad at the expense of Amy Jones.
