West Indies Women's cricketer Shakera Selman is recovering “slowly but surely”, her spokesman has told Sky Sports News HQ.
The medium pacer was injured when a ball hit her head while West Indies were fielding during their ICC Women's Cricket World Cup tournament opener against reigning champions Australia.
Medical staff are continuing to monitor Selman's situation. The 27-year-old is awaiting a full diagnosis but her spokesman said she has been walking around in the team hotel.
Selman was fielding at short-leg when she was struck on the back of her helmet by a fierce shot off the bat of Australian opener Nicole Bolton.
Bolton rocked back to a delivery from West Indies spinner Hayley Matthews and Selman was unable to get out of the way in time, turning her back as the ball struck her and bounced way into the air.
Team-mates moved in to help Selman and she was able to get to her feet before being guided off the field by West Indies medical staff.
The incident occurred with Australia appearing to be on their way to an easy victory at the County Ground in Taunton.
West Indies had set them a target of 205 for victory and they had reached 113-0 off 24 overs by the time play was briefly halted for Selman to be treated.
West Indies' next game is against India at Taunton on Thursday and it appears unlikely that Selman will be part of the squad.
