Chanderpaul selected subject to meeting with board

Chris Gayle has been omitted from the West Indies squad for the first Test against India in Jamaica. The former captain has been overlooked by the West Indies selectors since the World Cup following his public feud with administrators. The board are unhappy with media comments made by Gayle criticising the WICB, as well as his decision to play in the Indian Premier League after he had been left out of the original squad for the series against Pakistan in April. There was one change at opener, with Adrian Barath back from injury and replacing Kraigg Brathwaite at the top of the order. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who missed the second Test against Pakistan because of injury and then joined Gayle in being left out of the one-day series against India, is back but must first meet with the West Indies Cricket Board. A WICB statement read: "Following communications between WICB Management and Chanderpaul over the past weeks the WICB Management and Team Management will meet with Shivnarine Chanderpaul prior to the Test. The WICB Management and Team Management will outline to Chanderpaul the WICB's expectations of him in his future participation in the West Indies team as a player." The first Test begins at Sabina Park on Monday June 20. West Indies squad: D Sammy (captain), B Nash (vc), A Barath, C Baugh (wkt), D Bishoo, D Bravo, S Chanderpaul, F Edwards, R Rampaul, K Roach, M Samuels, R Sarwan, L Simmons.
