Edwards and Knight brought The Ashes trophy with them as they joined Rob Wotton and Anna Woolhouse on Sky Sports News on Tuesday afternoon.
And the England duo paid tribute to the fans for the support which they feel propelled them to victory.
"It's something we've not experienced before," the England skipper told Sky Sports News.
"We were overwhelmed by the support we had over the series.
"At Wormsley for the first day there were 3000 people and Chelmsford was a sell-out for the game last week which is something we have not seen before.
"We just want to thank everyone for coming out and supporting us because it truly did make a difference."
Knight, who was named Player of the Series after scoring 301 runs in five tests for England, hopes women's cricket continues to go from strength to strength.
"This is the starting point," she said. "We've got some really good crowds. The media coverage has got better and hopefully that'll inspire more girls to get involved in the game and I guess it's about improving the standard at international level as well.
"As we get better and the media coverage improves and hopefully the dominoes have been put in motion."
