England batsman Nick Compton looks set to be available for this week's third Test against South Africa, having recovered from a stomach illness.

Recalled to the side for this series, the Somerset man has played well in the first two Tests, scoring 194 runs, but he had to sit out Monday's nets session in Johannesburg.

However, he was training again on Tuesday and should be available for the Test, which gets underway on Thursday morning.

His team-mate Jimmy Anderson reported at Tuesday's press conference: "It was not ideal, him getting an illness close to the game, so it is nice to see him up and about, making a good recovery, and back in the nets today.

"It can take a lot out of you when you get an illness like that. Hopefully he will use his time wisely over the next couple of days to get 100 per cent fit for the game."

Jimmy Anderson described his fitness as good ahead of England’s third Test against South Africa

Anderson himself says he is 'feeling good' ahead of the Wanderers Test

The 33-year-old had to sit out the opening match of the series with a calf injury and then had to endure a marathon bowling stint in the drawn second Test, as South Africa piled on the runs.

However, England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker enjoyed a good session in the nets on Monday and is ready to lead the attack this week.

The tourists go into the match leading the series 1-0, having won the first Test comfortably and then secured a draw in Cape Town despite a few nervy moments on the final day.

Asked how he was feeling, Anderson said at Tuesday's press conference: "Good, considering the amount of bowling and the amount of time we spent in the field (South Africa scored 627-7 in Cape Town).

"It was not ideal, being injured and coming back to 35 overs, but it was a good test of the fitness and I feel pretty good, considering.

"I had a good few days of recovery in Cape Town and then coming here I had a good bowl yesterday, so I am feeling good ahead of the game

"It is frustrating to get injured but as a bowler it happens. Whatever age you are, you get injuries.

"The job of a bowler is to make sure you do all the fitness work away from the ground to make sure it doesn't happen that often."
