Clarke has missed both matches since Australia arrived in England because of a back injury, and concerns have been growing regarding his fitness.
"I'm hopeful, no doubt about that, but I really have to wait to see how I pull up tomorrow morning after training again today," Clarke said.
"My back is certainly improving, which is a positive."
Meanwhile, Clarke maintains that the Australia camp is united following a chaotic week for the tourists.
David Warner was involved in a scuffle with England's Joe Root in a bar in Birmingham, resulting in the Australian batsman being dropped from the side for Wednesday's game against New Zealand which did not produce a result due to the weather.
Clarke insists the incident has been forgotten and the Australia squad has moved on to focus on the cricket.
"I think the feeling in the camp has obviously been a little bit different over the past few days because there's been a little bit of disappointment in one of our players with what's happened over the past week," Clarke added.
"But I can guarantee you we left it there after I did the press conference a couple of days ago now. We left it there as a team and now we look forward."
