Pakistan batsman attempts to prove fitness for international return

Veteran batsman Mohammad Yousuf took part in a fitness test under the watch of Pakistan coach Dav Whatmore in a bid to revive his international career. Yousuf has not been considered for selection in the last 18 months because of his absence from domestic matches in Pakistan. But the 37-year-old, who averages 52.29 in 90 Tests, still believes he has plenty to offer after being put through his paces at the Pakistan Cricket Board academy in Lahore. "I have given a fitness test and now the result is in the hands of PCB," Yousuf said. "I am ready to play for my country and still have enough cricket left in me." Whatmore, whose reign as Pakistan coach started with victory at the Asia Cup in March, is assessing the fitness of all the contenders for the proposed tour of Sri Lanka. "The fitness test was designed to give everyone an idea where they stand now and after a prescription of work to re-test and see the improvement," he said. Pakistan are expected to play two T20s, five one-day internationals and three Tests in Sri Lanka from late May to mid-July.
