Bangladesh produced a reasonable 175, but needing 140 to progress because of a superior run-rate, Pakistan fired out of the blocks with opener Imran Nazir's 72 and they eased through with eight balls to spare.
"It's a great team effort, the boys have shown the right attitude so far in this tournament," Hafeez said.
"There's a little bit of a concern about our fast bowlers, but I am very happy as captain and the team is responding to me.
"Bangladesh played well but our batting was good. Imran Nazir was exceptional, we always need a good start when we're chasing.
"We've had a good time here, playing positively and hopefully we will do better in the Super Eights."
With Shakib Al Hasan's 84 providing Bangladesh initial hope of an upset, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim said: "The pressure was on us but Shakib played very well.
"We can take some positives out of this and go home and work on a few things. We're not used to playing on these wickets."
