Hosts New Zealand kicked off the Under-19 World Cup with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over defending champions Windies at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Finn Allen (115no) and Jakob Bhula (83) put on 163 for the second wicket as New Zealand topped Windies' 233-8 in just 39.3 overs in Group A. NZ v WINDIES SCORECARD

Windies made a bright start to their innings with Keagan Simmons (92no) and Kimani Melius (78) sharing an opening stand of 123 but the home team fought back thanks to Rachin Ravindra (3-30) and Matthew Fisher (3-61).

Elsewhere, Bangladesh beat Namibia by 87 runs in a game between two of England's rivals in Group C - Bangladesh captain Saif Hassan leading the way with 84 from just 48 balls, an innings which included five sixes. BANGLADESH v NAMIBIA SCORECARD

Zimbabwe coasted past Papua New Guinea in Group B, recording a thumping 10-wicket win after trumping their opponents' 95 all out with 36 overs in reserve.
