Sky Cricket Podcast: Bob Willis and Nasser Hussain reflect on England's heavy second Test defeat

Sky Cricket Podcast

We hear the thoughts of Bob Willis and Nasser Hussain following England's 340-run thrashing at the hands of South Africa in the second Test at Trent Bridge.

On the latest Sky Cricket podcast, Bob and Nasser dissect England's woeful batting collapse to 133 all out in the second innings, with both pondering how England can turn things around for the final two Tests of the now squared series.

The pair, in particular, pick apart England's selection issues ahead of the third Test at The Oval, with numerous players out of form.

"There is a lot for the selectors to think about," said Bob. "This humiliating defeat came against a South African side without AB de Villiers, without Dale Steyn and without Kagiso Rabada.

"I would make four changes to the team. But picking out who comes into the side isn't so simple, particularly with only white-ball cricket and the NatWest T20 Blast going on domestically at the moment."

Nasser, meanwhile, is concerned by England's recent losing record in Test cricket, but warns that they must not get too disheartened.

"There is a lot for England to look at," added Nasser. "But it's not a very English thing to do, they like to give people a long run, especially this current regime.

A pick of the action from the fourth day of the second Test between England and South Africa at Trent Bridge

"The key is not to get too up, or too down. England shouldn't have got too high after the win at Lord's and then shouldn't get too low after this demoralising defeat.

"But what concerns me is they've now lost six of their last eight Test matches. With the potential they've got in the side, they keep losing Test matches. They need to put a stop to that."

Bob and Nasser also discuss:

- Faf Du Plessis' perfect game as captain

- South Africa's superb fast bowlers

- England's review system struggles

- Looking ahead to the 100th Test at The Oval

We also hear from both captains, speaking to Michael Atherton at the post-match presentation, England coach Trevor Bayliss, South African speedsters Morne Morkel and Chris Morris, before the getting the final verdict on the Test from Sir Ian Botham and David Lloyd.
