Jason Kenny has admitted he has not yet decided if he will race at the 2020 Olympic Games.

The 28-year-old moved level with Sir Chris Hoy on six Olympic titles by winning three gold medals at Rio 2016 and has the opportunity to become the most successful British Olympian in history in Tokyo.

However, although he has returned to light training, he still does not know if he wants to put himself through another four years of sacrifice.

Speaking at the Action Medical Research Champions of Cyclesport dinner in London on Thursday, Kenny said: "It's such a long way away. It takes 100 per cent commitment, so if I decide to go for it, I have got to get my head down for four years and really go for it.

"It's not the kind of thing you can do half-hearted, otherwise I would just waste four years of my life and not get anything from it.

"I have got to decide whether I want to go for it."

Kenny remains friends with Hoy but revealed their respective medal counts are not normally a topic of conversation.

"We just talk about cars when me and Chris get together," he added. "Usually his cars, because I drive a van and he's got Ferraris and things. We don't talk about medals."

Kenny's wife, Laura Kenny, is keen to race in Tokyo and add to her total of four Olympic gold medals, but she insisted she will not have a guaranteed place in the British team.

"The way British Cycling works, we have got to get selected," she said. "People think that because we are Olympic champions, you automatically go to the next one and you get a chance to defend, but that's not the case.

"We have to go through a process of qualifying ourselves and get selected."
