The 23-year-old Colombian climbing expert announced himself as a genuine contender for Grand Tour victories this year by producing a stand-out performance at the Tour de France to finish second overall behind Chris Froome.
Next year's Tour, which contains five summit finishes, is well-suited to Quintana's style, but a Giro containing nine summit finishes and a mountain time trial appears to play even more to his strengths.
Quintana admitted he and his Movistar team staff are studying the routes of both races meticulously in order to maximise his chances of challenging for overall glory.
"My goal is to do one of the three Grand Tours and to once again finish on the podium," he told Revista Mundo Ciclistico.
"We have been considering the options and we have not decided anything yet. The idea is to go to one of the races to do well for me and the team.
"I really like the Giro, but the Tour also has some nice mountains. We will study it well not to make any mistakes in our final choice."
Quintana topped the mountains and best young rider classifications at this year's Tour and also won the Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco and Vuelta a Burgos during a breakthrough 2013.
His race schedule could be influenced by the intentions of team-mate Alejandro Valverde, who is also expected to target one of the Grand Tours.
