The 20-year-old, who was racing for the first time in the colours of her new team, UnitedHealthcare, triumphed on a flat, 63km route starting and finishing in Villa Mercedes, and now leads general classification.

She tweeted afterwards: "Pretty good way to start the season."

The five-day race is made up mainly of sprint stages, with a 10.6km individual time trial on stage four set to decide the overall winner.

Wednesday's second stage takes the riders on a 56.2km route starting and finishing in Merlo. The race concludes on Saturday.
