A full-strength line-up has been chosen for the October 18-20 event in Apeldoorn, which comes two weeks ahead of the Manchester Track World Cup at the start of a season culminating with February's Track World Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Archibald, a 20-year-old City of Edinburgh rider, has been named alongside London 2012 gold medal-winners Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna Rowsell and 2013 world champion Elinor Barker in the women's endurance squad, where the team pursuit is the priority.

The women's team pursuit this season has changed from three women over 3km to be in line with the men's event of four riders and 4km.

The European Championships see Trott and King return to the venue where they won their first world team pursuit titles, in 2011.

Barker won world gold in Belarus in February alongside Trott and King as three-time world champion Rowsell, the eldest in the group at 24, sat out the 2012/13 track season.

Kenny and James

The corresponding men's squad is led by Olympic champions Ed Clancy and Steven Burke and includes Jon Dibben, Owain Doull, Sam Harrison and Andy Tennant.

Three-time Olympic champion Jason Kenny is in the men's sprint squad along with London 2012 gold medallist Phil Hindes, Matt Crampton and Kian Emadi, while two-time world champion Becky James is in the women's sprint squad alongside the fit-again Jess Varnish and Vicky Williamson, who rode in Minsk in Varnish's absence.

British Cycling performance manager Shane Sutton said: "It is great to be able to welcome Katie Archibald to the team, and it is testament to the programme that we are able to continue to develop and expand our squad and introduce talented new riders.

"It is the start of the season, so we don't know where we are at compared to the rest of the world at this moment in time. However, we saw some strong results at the National Track Championships last week and we are looking to be in good shape as a team, so it will be interesting to see how that stands up against some international competition."

Men's sprint: Matt Crampton, Kian Emadi, Jason Kenny, Phil Hindes.

Women's sprint: Becky James, Jess Varnish, Vicky Williamson.

Men's endurance: Steven Burke, Ed Clancy, Jon Dibben, Owain Doull, Sam Harrison, Andy Tennant.

Women's endurance: Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker, Dani King, Joanna Rowsell, Laura Trott.
