New world champion Michael van Gerwen has claimed he plans to retire from darts aged 40.
The Dutchman won the World Darts Championship last weekend for the second time, triumphing 7-3 over defending champion Gary Anderson in the final to extend his growing legacy.
Asked by Sky Sports News HQ if he will still play into his 50s like Phil Taylor, Van Gerwen responded: "No chance, not even close.
I will decide what I want to do, not what someone else wants me to do. I would like to be a dad in the future, and make a family.

"I'm going retire before. I'll probably stop when I'm 40. I think so, if I have [achieved] all my goals.
"Then I will decide what I want to do, not what someone else wants me to do. I would like to be a dad in the future, and make a family."
Van Gerwen confessed that he would never match Taylor's record haul of 16 world titles, but reflected on ending a dominant year to claim the sport's top prize to add to his 2014 title.
"I put a lot of pressure on myself, and everyone around me did as well," he said. "I finally did it again. Here I am again, the world No 1 and the world champion.
"The World Championship is the tournament you want to win, it's the most important one. I was trying to do anything within my possibilities and my ability to perform as well as possible.
"Everyone played well against me, but round-after-round I played well.
"Of course, my biggest target, to try and be the world champion again. There's a lot coming up, and I need to make sure I'm focused again."
Van Gerwen, at Thursday's PDC awards, was named PDC Player of the Year, Fans' Player of the Year, Players' Player of the Year, and the Best ProTour Player.
