Phil 'The Power' Taylor added another Premier League Darts victory over Raymond van Barneveld to their expiring rivalry on Thursday in Dublin.
Taylor's impending retirement meant their latest televised duel could be the last of its kind, and Taylor prevailed 7-3 to extend his head-to-head dominance over Van Barneveld to 58-17 in a rivalry that dates back to 1990.
Taylor leapfrogged his old adversary to go third in the table after opening a 4-1 lead, then withstanding Van Barneveld's brief fightback.
They exchanged 121 finishes in the first three legs, before 'Barney' struck a 124 checkout to thrill the Irish crowd, although it was ultimately not enough to avoid a second defeat of the season against Taylor.
Michael van Gerwen remained at the summit of the Premier League after recovering from a two-leg deficit to beat James Wade 7-5.
Wade's accurate throwing at double 20 had kept him competitive in the early stages and he opened a 4-2 lead, threatening to shock the world No 1.
But Van Gerwen turned on the afterburners, stringing together two breaks to roar 6-4 ahead before a superb 138 check-out sealed the victory.
Van Barneveld is third in the table after returning to the oche to dominate Wade 7-2.
Peter 'Snakebite' Wright remained in second place, two points behind Van Gerwen, after salvaging a 6-6 draw against Dave Chisnall.
Chisnall began and ended the night on the bottom of the table, having squandered a 6-3 lead to gift Wright a point.
Adrian Lewis thrashed Gary Anderson 7-3, meaning both players ended the night two points behind fourth-placed Taylor in pursuit of the play-off spots.
Two-time Premier League champion Anderson uncharacteristically struggled with his finishing but Lewis had no such problem, recording the stand-out result of his campaign so far.
