Newton had been a semi-finalist in Group One on Tuesday but made it all the way this time as he defeated Dave Chisnall 6-4 in the final.
Newton finished in third place in the eight-man round-robin stage after winning four of his seven matches, then defeated Kim Huybrechts 6-3 in the last four.
In the final, Chisnall took the opening leg before Newton levelled things up before the Fleetwood thrower edged ahead by taking out 83.
Chisnall drew level again at 2-2 but Newton then produced a seemingly decisive blow as he finished 121 on the bull and then tops to move 4-2 up.
The world No 7 replied with a finish of 103 and double five to level, but Newton hit tops to move back in front and sealed victory by landing double six for a 14-darter.
"It was a tough final. It's been a tough three days - I'm playing against the best players in the world day-in, day-out for three days on the trot, and I'm over the moon to get through, it means a lot to me," Newton told the PDC's official website.
"Survival is an achievement [in the early days] but I knew I was playing really well in the group stages and that I had to keep it going.
"It's really tiring but I dug deep and kept going. I was very tired this morning and I think it's an achievement for both myself and Dave to get to the final having been in from Group One."
