Part - reigning world champion.
The record books will always show that 2008 was the year Part won a third World Championship, yet in terms of titles it was his most barren for nearly a decade.
That may seem a churlish statement at face value, yet it shows the mantle of world champion has been a heavy one to bear for the popular Canadian this season.
True, he followed up his success (as the 11th seed) at the Alexandra Palace with victory just a fortnight later in the Players' Championship event in Gibraltar, but that was the last time he tasted tournament success.
Of course, his £100,000 winnings from Ally Pally have helped him make £188,000 in the year but his Major performances have been a huge disappointment with the quarter-final he reached in Dublin the closest he has come to the business end of a televised tournament.
Bad players don't win three world titles though, and Part's class has been obvious ever since he became the first overseas world champion in history when winning on his debut at the Lakeside way back in 1994.
Since then 'Darth Maple' (due to his love of Star Wars and Canadian roots) has regularly travelled over 100,000 miles a year in pursuit of glory, though the introduction of the Order of Merit has allowed him to be more selective.
Sid Waddell is delighted that darts fans are finally coming out of their shells and joining in the fun.
If Phil Taylor doesn't win it then who will? Sid Waddell names some players to watch at Ally Pally.
