Lewis - steady progress.
Perhaps the most naturally talented thrower in the game today, Lewis is still to win his first major title.
Indeed he has not put silverware of any description in the cabinet since November 2006, when he won the last of his three Players' Championship titles in Scotland.
At times though it is easy to forget the man already tipped as a future world champion is still only 23.
Having emerged from the shadow of his fellow Stokie Taylor (who backed Lewis in the same way Eric Bristow had funded him), 'Jackpot' has made steady progress through the rankings and enters this tournament sixth in the Order of Merit after another solid - if trophyless - 12 months.
A quarter-final appearance at Ally Pally last year was quickly followed by a run to the semi-finals of the Premier League, and while his form subsequently dipped somewhat he was at his best for the European Championship in November, with only that man Taylor getting the better of him.
Since coming to prominence in reaching the quarter-finals at the 2005 World Matchplay, Lewis has been a familiar face at major tournaments and as his experience grows will surely claim that first televised title he craves.
Sid Waddell is delighted that darts fans are finally coming out of their shells and joining in the fun.
If Phil Taylor doesn't win it then who will? Sid Waddell names some players to watch at Ally Pally.
