The Leeds Hawkeyes, amateur dodgeball team from the Leeds Metropolitan University have beaten off stiff competition from 33 dodgeball teams from across the country and have been crowned the UK champions of the Doritos Dodgeball Challenge. The feisty team of six have scooped a £10,000 prize and will now face the world champion San Diego Crossfire team in Las Vegas later this month.

Over the past month, the Doritos Dodgeball Challenge invited the UK to fire a barrage of balls at the 34 dodgeball teams putting themselves in the firing line. The public were able to take control of one of six canons from the comfort of their own home or office - aim and fire at the competitors by simply clicking their mouse. Every hit, near miss and eye-watering moment was streamed live, direct to the nation's computers.

The Leeds Hawkeyes, which includes Nick Martin (22), David Maher (22), Alexander Warham (22), James Barnes (22), Benjamin Jonathan Cunliffe (22), Thomas Francis Lewis (21), scooped the cash prize by seeing off competition from teams across the UK and Ireland. They dodged thousands of balls from the merciless cannon deluge and will now be flown to Las Vegas by Doritos to play a specially organised match against the current World champions on 20th June at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas.

Nick Martin, Captain of the Leeds Hawkeyes says: "This was a brilliant but tough competition, the cannons were pretty fierce and we had to dodge more than 60 balls every minute. We are so excited to be going to Vegas to play the Crossfire. We'll be giving 110% to beat the current World Champions and hopefully will make Leeds proud!"

Pete Charles, Marketing Manager, Doritos, says: 'The 33 teams all put up a good fight but the Leeds Hawkeyes did an excellent job avoiding the barrage of balls aimed at them. They'll certainly have their work cut out against the San Diego Crossfire but we'll be rooting for them - good luck boys!"

The match will be available to watch from 23rd June by logging on to www.doritos.co.uk
