The Mexican learnt earlier this month that, just one year after joining the team in a blaze of promise and potential, McLaren were dispensing with his services for 2014 in favour of Kevin Magnussen.
The former Sauber driver responded in the best possible manner at last week's United States by out-qualifying current team-mate Jenson Button - who is being retained by McLaren alongside Magnussen - before claiming his third points-scoring result in four races.
Having admitted just seven days ago that it would be "very difficult" to find a place on the grid for 2014 following his sudden ousting and that he was considering a switch to an alternative series, it appears that Perez is close to securing a F1 lifeline for next season.
"Things are looking very promising. I believe that something will happen in the next couple of days," Sergio told Sky Sports F1. "Obviously it is the last race of the season, so things have to happen very soon."
While Perez has been linked with the vacancy at Lotus, it's believed that he is more likely to join Force India, potentially alongside Nico Hulkenberg, or return to former outfit Sauber.
