F1 2017: The new cars are launched

A look at the new chargers unveiled for the 2017 F1 season...

The Williams FW40
Williams stole a march on their rivals by becoming the first team to offer F1 fans a look at the sport's new era of cars when they revealed computer-generated preview images of the FW40. It has been a disrupted winter for the Grove outfit with Valtteri Bottas' departure to Mercedes prompting Felipe Massa to u-turn on his retirement. But the team are also expected to announce the arrival of Paddy Lowe in the coming weeks.

The Sauber C36
Have Sauber gone 'old school' with their new car? The C36 features a striking new blue and white livery with the front-wing also splashed with gold paint. Under the bodywork, the car will once again be powered by a Ferrari engine but Sauber have also confirmed they will start the new 2017 with a 2016-spec power unit.

The Renault RS17
Renault were the first team to physically unveil their car in an official launch, and the London event didn't disappoint. As soon as Jolyon Palmer and new driver Nico Hulkenberg lifted the covers off the RS17, the distinctive wings and livery immediately stood out - with the French outfit adding a large splash of black to their usual yellow. Renault's 2017 challenger is the first car where team bases at Enstone and Viry have combined with 'perfect harmony', and outlining his plans for the season, team chief Jerome Stoll said he wants to jump from ninth to fifth in the standings.

The Force India VJM10
What can we expect from Force India in their tenth year in F1? The team lived up to their billing as the 'pound for pound' champions of the sport in 2016 when they finished an astonishing fourth in the Constructors' Championship. A repeat of that feat in 2017 would defy most observers' expectations but under-estimate the power of Force India at your peril. Youngster Esteban Ocon has joined the team for 2017 as a replacement for Nico Hulkenberg with Sergio Perez now unofficially assuming the role of 'team leader'. The silver and black livery run in winter testing has been replaced by a dramatic pink makeover for the racing season.

The Mercedes W08
Sleek, tight and aggressive-looking, Mercedes' W08 was an instant hit when it first broke cover at the hands of Lewis Hamilton for a shakedown at Silverstone. If the world champions' latest creation is as fast as it looks, the rest of the field could be in for a tough year - again. Ultimately, of course, the car's real pedigree will only be determined when the new season begins but for now the W08 will simply have to be considered a real beauty.

The Ferrari SF70-H
Will this be the car to inspire Ferrari's first world championship since 2008? Launched at the team's Fiorano, the SF70-H immediately attracted attention for being adorned with an extra rear T-wing affixed to the rear wing. But will it have wings on track in 2017?

The McLaren MCL32
McLaren had long trailed a livery overhaul and the MCL32 didn't disappointment with a new orange, black and white colour scheme revealed at the car's launch. After a string of disappointing seasons for the eight-time constructors' champions, the Woking outfit are optimistic of more progress in their third year back in tandem with Honda, with the Japanese outfit having produced a redesigned and lighter engine for 2017. Sixth in 2016, will they be back in the top four this time around?

The Red Bull RB13
The only team other than Mercedes to win a race last season, Red Bull could have the best chance of toppling the world champions in 2017. They will hope to do just that in their RB13, which they have teased ahead of a physical launch when pre-season testing starts in Barcelona on Monday. It promises to be an exciting year for the team, with aerodynamics expert Adrian Newey overseeing the development of their latest challenger for the sport's new era. What's more, this is the first full season for a partnership that team boss Christian Horner insists is Formula 1's most talented. Will we have a new champion in Daniel Ricciardo or Max Verstappen this year?

The Haas VF-17
A revised look for Haas's second F1 season with the silver of the VF-16 replaced by dark grey on the new VF-17, With a chassis built by Dallara and a close technical collaboration with engine providers Ferrari, Haas are aiming to make progress from their debut season when they finished a commendable eighth in the standings. The launch-spec VF17 features a thumb tip nose and shark fin, with the car completing its first laps in a filming day at Barcelona ahead of the first test.

The Toro Rosso STR12
Leaving the best until last? The STR12 proved to be arguably the surprise of F1 2017's 'launch season' when it was unveiled in a bold new metallic blue and red livery. The detail of the James Key-designed car impressed too: a slimmed-down nose at the front, an ultra-slim waistline at the back. Now for the biggest question of them all: will its speed match its look?
