The Williams driver impressed throughout the weekend in Austin, making it into Q3 for the first time since the Canadian Grand Prix in June, but on this occasion following it up with four points to move above team-mate Pastor Maldonado in the Drivers' Championship.
Barring a shock success for Caterham or Marussia in Brazil, Bottas' result should also secure ninth in the Constructors' Championship for the Grove-based outfit and the Finn stressed the performance was a team effort.
"It is a great day and I am very happy for the team," Bottas told Sky Sports F1.
"We have finally got some points for me as well, four points. We did a really good job today, the strategy, the race start, the pitstop, everyone from the team did such a good job so I really felt that we deserved it."
Bottas says the car felt much better at the Circuit of The Americas than it had earlier in the season and he is hoping that will allow people to see his full potential.
"It feels much better," he added. "Once we have more speed like this weekend, then people will see more what you can do in the car and these positions are starting to get closer and they are what I am aiming for and what we are aiming for together. Of course we want to be further ahead, but I think for now we need to be very happy."
Whilst trailing a 2014 exhaust layout in Abu Dhabi both Williams drivers reported the car was more driveable than with the Coanda effect configuration they had been developing and Bottas says the switch played a big part in his improved performance.
"I think that made quite a big difference, particularly on this track, as well as the directions we took all weekend with the car set up," he confirmed.
"We really did everything right, especially with the tyres - I think we handled those well in both qualifying and the race. All race I had very good information from the pitwall on how to manage the tyres and if I could push more or not so it was nice to have the support from the team there."
