Current F1 drivers and Sky Sports F1's pundits discuss the idea of introducing closed cockpits into the sport

The FIA Drivers' Commission discussed cockpit safety in their latest meeting and were keen that any solution implemented in F1 be affordable for all single-seater categories.

The tragic recent deaths of Jules Bianchi and Justin Wilson have once more put the issue of how to improve head protection for drivers at the front and centre of the safety debate across single-seater motorsport.

"A central theme of today's safety discussion surrounds the concept of improving cockpit safety for single seater cars. The Drivers' Commission is aware of the developments being made in this area, but stressed the importance of solutions that are developed for Formula One being simple and affordable enough to be implemented at all levels of single seater racing," the Commission said in a statement on Tuesday.

The issue proved a major talking point at the Italian GP, with Jenson Button, F1's most experienced driver, declaring "we've all had enough now", and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo saying that not even tradition should come before safety enhancements.
