Quotes of the week
Well, what the hell do I know?
Seemingly not a lot following my plea for strikers in my last blog we've gone and put five past Watford, four past Bristol City and hammered Leicester at The Walkers Stadium where it could have easily been another four or five so I'll not go on about strikers this time around!
However....Simon Cox has been picked and has done well, he works hard, drops off the centre half and reminds me a lot of a young Kevin Phillips with his movement off the ball. If he achieves half of what Super Kev has done in his career he wouldn't have had a bad innings for himself
I think some key praise is due for Gonzola Jara who has been immense for us over the past month or so. Signed from Colo Colo for £1.4m back at the end of August us fans knew little about the versatile Chilean international other than he had been tracked by us for sometime and was comfortable in numerous positions across the back four or in midfield
I witnessed his debut at home to Palace in a truly woeful performance where he was shoe horned into a right midfield position which didn't work on the day but since then he has just not looked back
The boy is Premiership class and you can tell we were scouting him for that division should we have stayed up or hopefully this season go back up. He was excellent at Preston, ran the show at Leicester and scored a 30 yard screamer for good measure, was at his industrious best against Watford, the list goes on.
He's played so well he's kept the excellent Robert Koren out the side and also Youseff Mulumbu who missing one game with an injury has not won his place back and until then was arguably our player of the season
Jara is forming a good partnership with Graham Dorrans in the centre of the park yet the ability the guy has he can easily switch into full back or centre half with ease should we need to shake things up.
I just couldn't resist one last chirp about our need for another striker and thankfully we are looking but heading into December we've given ourselves some breathing space and are sitting pretty and on course for promotion
A bit more Chilli sauce in the guise of Gonzalo Jara would do lovely thanks very much!
