Back in the woods

Relegation worries: Peter Sweeney

Town reminded me of the film Avatar. The amount of money spent and effort put in should have meant they put on a brilliant performance and impressed the critics. Instead I realise that they're just an expensive bunch of small time names that promise a lot but ultimately deliver very little.

Quotes of the week

After being more than happy about the win against Shrewsbury I looked at Grimsby's fixtures for last week with a hint of optimism and excitement at the thought of being able to head towards possible safety.

However, the champagne was put on hold and replaced with Whisky and sleepless nights - I can imagine Neil Woods will be doing similar after the week started off poorly.

Crewe away - I finished my lectures at midday on Tuesday and eagerly awaited my friend Nat to finish hers so that we could travel to Crewe and watch the Mariners build on their fantastic home win against Shrewsbury. This was, of course, not the case.

I arrived at Crewe and was greeted by a fair few Town fans in a lovely little pub across the road from the ground. They still had their Christmas decorations up which made me realise that Crewe still had a lot to be festive about. I wouldn't be surprised if Grimsby Town never put decorations up again as we certainly have no cause to be festive.

Displeasing

To be honest the night just went downhill from there. Having realised that I may actually want to move to Crewe as Stella was £2 a bottle in Santa's Grotto - which was also in kebab-flinging distance for a classy bird like myself!

However I don't know if the team had also thought this and certainly a few members of the team seemed to have taken advantage of the handy location of the takeaways as the performance from Town was more than lethargic and displeasing to watch - even though we managed to equalise twice!

Out of the running

Morecambe pretty much had the same story in the first half. The team don't seem to be able to handle more than one game a month and didn't put in a shift until the second half started.

Although Coulson managed to equalise I still think Town showed their potential at home against Shrewsbury, and yet some of the players don't seem to be bothered about recreating that magic and keeping the team that I have support since childhood in the Football League.

To make things worse, on Saturday Cheltenham showed that they're league worthy after beating Burton 6-5! I'm afraid that for me that just says it's curtains for Town - but at least Sweeney will have something more to moan about as that seems to be more important than the football to him anyway!

Monday morning brought news that Brown had been sacked. At first I thought it was the Labour Party getting rid of Gordon - but then I realised it was Hull getting rid of their hero/villain (it changes every week). Probably not a smart move by Hull there but oh well! Think I've lost my passion for anything football related - anyone got David Tennant's number? I need to regenerate!

Up the Mariners!

Roy Blanchard (Grimsby Town fan) says...

Well i think we can still stay up, we showed that we can perform just need to do it on a regular basic, pitty after such a good result on saturday (3-2 win) we have to have the worst away game we could away to Rochdale, but any result will be good there, and not such a hard run in to end of season so all in all with the right mood we can do it, and after 50 years of supporting GTFC i really hope so, Oh and keep up the good work Hannah, i read your every entry , and love your humour and loyalty to GTFC
