Reid: timely arrival

There is a cliché used in football of taking one game at a time, but I can't help but look at the December fixtures and wonder where we will be come the end of it.

As the last international break of the year goes by, attention heads back to domestic football this weekend with another big game for the Super Hoops against Doncaster Rovers.

The R's will be hoping to follow on from their previous game and pick up another three points on the road.

It is important we pick up at least a point in the forthcoming game as from there on in we face a very tough December, one in which could make or break our season.

December sees us play six games in total, three at home and three away. On paper the home games look tricky with three teams you would expect to be up there at the end of the season.

We entertain Gordon Strachan's Middlesborough at the beginning of the month followed by two back to back Monday night away games which are live on Sky Sports against Watford and West Bromwich Albion, respectively.

The R's then welcome Sheffield United, and Bristol City to Loftus Road on Boxing Day before travelling to Ipswich Town, a ground which Jim Magilton would love to get a result at.

Fitness

This is the reason why the Donny game followed by Coventry City the week after is very important. Failure to take four points from the two games could cost us dear.

Another top-quality loan signing entered Loftus Road this week with the arrival of Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid. The loanee bolsters the central midfield after Gavin Mahon followed Martin Rowlands into the treatment room for the foreseeable future.

It remains to be seen whether the Republic of Ireland international is here for longer than the month he is scheduled for. Sam Allardyce would surely have loaned him out to get his match fitness up after two seasons out with injury but Rangers fans can just hope he doesn't fit into the Blackburn boss's plans and he is here longer than the month.

The signing is a real coup for the club as I am sure he could get into most Premier League teams. I think the signing shows how far the club has come in the last year or two as previously we would not have been able to attract a player of this calibre to the club.
