Mehdi Mostefa's late equaliser earned Ajaccio a stay of execution in Ligue 1 as the Corsicans fought back to draw 1-1 with Bordeaux.
Ajaccio's relegation would have been confirmed if they had failed to find a reply to Jussie's 62nd-minute opener. With five minutes remaining, the bottom club did muster a response - through Mostefa's superb volley.
However, they were still left needing a miracle to survive - 15 points adrift of safety with only five games left.
Ajaccio began brightly, with Joshua Nadeau sending a volley into the side-netting and Claude Dielna forcing the goalkeeper into a good save with a curling free-kick.
It was not until just after the half-hour mark that Bordeaux threatened.
First Guillaume Hoarau forced Guillermo Ochoa into a decent reflex save with a far-post header and then shortly afterwards Diego Rolan worked the Ajaccio goalkeeper again with a 20-yard shot.
Benoit Pedretti stung the palms of Cedric Carrasso with a volley from just inside the area just before half-time, and the Bordeaux goalkeeper was called upon again the other side of the break to deny Mostefa.
The visitors made the breakthrough when Jussie was on hand to volley home from close range following Gregory Sertic's far-post free-kick.
Ajaccio were down at this stage, unless they could respond. But, following a goalmouth scramble in the 85th minute, the ball eventually fell at the feet of Mostefa, and the Algeria international sent a right-footed volley into the top corner.
