Stanley and Vale go in search of precious points

Struggling Accrington Stanley and Port Vale will be hoping to pull clear of danger on Tuesday. Stanley have taken just one win from their last 10 League Two fixtures and find themselves only seven points clear of the drop zone. Vale are four points better off than their midweek opponents, but they remain in trouble after struggling for consistency all season.

Accrington team news

Accrington boss John Coleman looks set to name an unchanged line-up. Stanley let a first-half lead slip in the 1-1 draw at Notts County on Saturday, but Coleman should give his players another chance knowing they are still not assured of their safety. Ian Dunbavin's groin injury means Kenny Arthur remains the only fit goalkeeper at the club, so Coleman will again be without a replacement on his substitute's bench. Impressive young winger Chris Turner could start ahead of John Mullin, while Sean McConville is likely to be named on the bench after failing to recover fully from a broken wrist and ankle injury. Midfielder Jimmy Ryan has this week moved a step closer to signing a new deal to keep him at the club and he is a definite starter. Peter Murphy (knee), Chris King (thigh) and Leam Richardson (pelvis) are all out, while James Bell has a knock and is doubtful.
Vale team news
Port Vale boss Dean Glover may be tempted to keep faith with the same XI that saw off Darlington at the weekend when he takes his side to The Fraser Eagle Stadium. Glover, boosted by the fresh outlook of new assistant Keith Downing, made a host of tactical changes in midfield and attack and subsequently reaped the rewards as his Vale side secured only their third win in 12 games. Goalscorer Rob Taylor proved his worth on the left, on-loan striker Kevin Gall on the right, while Louis Dodds partnered Marc Richards up front, both of whom also netted. Midfielder Scott Brown and defender Lee Collins are both battling to be fit having missed out at the weekend with neck and hip problems respectively. But defender Gareth Owen will definitely be sidelined as he awaits the results of a scan which will determine the extent of his suspected ankle ligament damage. Striker Steve Thompson earned a place on the bench at the weekend having recently returned from a hamstring problem and he will again hope to be involved, but midfielder Dave Brammer is not yet ready after a knee injury.
