All-time Greats header

You have voted for the best player to wear a Portsmouth shirt and the winner is.... Jimmy Dickinson.

We asked fans of each of the 92 English League teams and Scottish Premier League sides to nominate their all-time favourite footballers and Dickinson topped the poll.

Croatian playmaker Robert Prosinecki came in second while cult hero Linvoy Primus was third in the voting.

Jimmy Dickinson

Jimmy Dickinson has been hailed as the greatest player in the history of Portsmouth Football Club.

Spending almost 20 years at one club is always a good way to become a legend in that part of the world.

That is precisely what Dickinson did, beginning and ending his illustrious career at Fratton Park.

In all he made 865 appearances for Pompey, more than any other player in the club's history, and won 48 caps for England.

During that time he was never booked or sent-off, earning him the nickname 'Gentleman Jim'.

Dickinson will forever be associated with Portsmouth and his face can now be seen in the seating at Fratton Park.

Robert Prosinecki

Robert Prosinecki may have only played a fleeting cameo role in the history of Portsmouth, but he left quite an impression.

The Croatian schemer, who turned out for the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona prior to his arrival at Pompey, was a player of the calibre few had ever seen on the South Coast.

His creative ability illuminated the Championship during his one-season stay in England, with his goals and playmaking skills helping Portsmouth avoid the drop in the 2001/02 campaign.

Linvoy Primus

Linvoy Primus arrived at Portsmouth at the turn of the century as a relative unknown, having turned out for Charlton, Barnet and Reading prior to making the move south.

However, his never-say-die approach to the game soon saw him win over the Fratton Park faithful and cement his standing as a Pompey legend.

He is still on the club's books nine years later and has made over 200 appearances during that time.
