Austria allow three-goal lead to slip away

Holland produced a stunning comeback to defeat Euro 2008 co-hosts Austria in a seven-goal friendly thriller. Austria looked on course to record a famous victory over Marco van Basten's men as they raced into a 3-0 lead inside the first 36 minutes. But the highly-rated Klaas Huntelaar gave the Dutch hope with a reply before the break, with the visitors then taking charge in the second half to snatch an improbable victory.

Shell-shocked

Ivan Ivanschitz put the home side in front with just six minutes on the clock before Sebastian Prodl's double (19 and 36) sent the Ernst Happel Stadion crowd into raptures. But Huntelaar, who has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, hit back for a shell-shocked Holland in the 38th minute. Johnny Heitinga reduced the deficit further in the 67th minute before Austria capitulated in the closing stages. Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink needed only three minutes to level matters after coming off the bench in the 80th minute, before Huntelaar scored his second of the night to leave Austria defeated and demoralised.
