Both sides in desperate need of three points

Two sides struggling for form meet at Ewood Park when 18th placed Blackburn host 15th placed Aston Villa. Rovers have spent most of the season floating around the drop zone and are currently in the final relegation spot on goal difference. However, three wins in their last 10 fixtures is the club's best run of form all season as Steve Kean looks to avoid dropping out of the Premier League. Aston Villa are a club in turmoil and have won just twice in their last 10 games. Alex McLeish is coming under increasing pressure from fans to turn things around for the Villans, as they edge closer to joining the battle at the bottom. Their task has been made more difficult with the news that talisman Darren Bent will miss the rest of the season having suffered ruptured ankle ligaments in Saturday's goalless draw with Wigan.

Team news

Blackburn will be without Jason Lowe and Gael Givet who are both suspended for the weekend's game. Martin Olsson has returned from international duty with Sweden with a slight knee injury, but could be fit to play. Steven N'Zonzi has recovered from tonsillitis and David Dunn has shaken off a thigh injury which has kept him out for the last two weeks. Aston Villa could welcome back Stiliyan Petrov, Alan Hutton and James Collins. Petrov has returned to training having missed the Wigan game with a hamstring injury, Hutton withdrew from Scotland's game on Wednesday with a similar problem and Collins pulled out of the Wales squad with a knee injury. Chris Herd has come through a full week of training following an ankle injury but Bent (ankle), Richard Dunne (collarbone), Fabian Delph (ankle) and Ciaran Clark (knee) are all ruled out.
