Bournemouth v Rochdale preview

Image: Fogden: In line for Cherries debut

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Bournemouth and Rochdale at Dean Court.

Bournemouth's new signing Wes Fogden is in contention for a debut. Attacking midfielder Fogden joined the Cherries on an initial loan from Havant and Waterlooville on Thursday, although the deal may become permanent in January. Midfielder Harry Arter will return to the starting line-up after serving a one-match ban, while Wes Thomas is also available after he was cup-tied for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Yeovil in midweek. Darryl Flahavan is likely to replace Shwan Jalal in goal and there could be places on the bench for Joe Partington and Michael Symes - who both enjoyed cameos against the Glovers on Tuesday after long periods out through injury. Forward Lyle Taylor was withdrawn during the Yeovil clash with breathing difficulties and, subsequently, cannot train as he is awaiting the results of an echocardiogram scan. Long-term casualty Nathan Byrne has had surgery to aid his recovery from an ankle injury and is targeting a return in January. Shaun McDonald is making good progress in his recuperation from a badly bruised toe but is unlikely to feature, while Mark Molesley is still several weeks away from a return after tearing his hamstring. Mitchell Nelson is back from his loan spell at Lincoln. Rochdale defender Pim Balkestein is expected to return to the starting line-up. Balkestein was rested for the midweek penalty shootout win in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Walsall as manager Steve Eyre made five changes from the side that beat Wycombe last weekend. Attacking midfielder Ahmad Benali made his debut on Tuesday night in place of striker Ashley Grimes, but the latter is likely to return, while skipper Gary Jones is expected to be recalled after he too was rested against Walsall. Midfielder Brian Barry-Murphy stepped in for Jones, but is likely to drop to the substitutes' bench, with boss Eyre to decide on whether to retain Jason Kennedy in midfield or recall Andrew Tutte. Striker David Ball could be playing his last game for Dale before being recalled by parent club Peterborough and although winger Simon Hackney (abdominal muscle) is back in training, he remains a fortnight away from a return to action.
