Henri Bedimo and Corentin Tolisso scored in injury-time as Lyon hit back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory at Bordeaux, who were denied the chance to claim their fourth consecutive home win.
Henri Saivet's opener looked like giving the hosts all three points but Bedimo had different ideas when he popped up two minutes into stoppage time before Tolisso broke Bordeaux hearts with a dramatic last-gasp winner.
Les Girondins wasted no time in making up for last week's disappointing defeat at Sochaux and took the lead as early as the eighth minute.
Playing with three across the back, Lyon looked a little lost defensively and Mariano exposed that weakness when he picked out Saivet unmarked at the back post and the Senegal striker left Anthony Lopes no chance with a clinical header.
The visitors could, and probably should, have drawn level just three minutes later when Alexandre Lacazette showed great pace to beat three Bordeaux defenders but, after sliding the ball beyond Cedric Carrasso, saw his effort end up just the wrong side of the left post.
Lyon continued to look shaky at the back with their new formation and, but for some poor finishing from Saivet, they could have found themselves even further in trouble before Remi Garde chose to revert back to a back four.
Les Gones looked reinvigorated and Lacazette tested Carrasso with a 25-yard effort but Garde's men were almost caught out just before the break.
Maxime Gonalons missed a clearance and Guillaume Hoarau profited before seeing off Milan Bisevac but, when faced with just Lopes, the former PSG man could only fire wide of the target.
Bordeaux threatened again soon after the break through Gregory Sertic but, after he beat Samuel Umtiti, the 24-year-old failed to test Lopes in the Lyon goal.
Disaster almost struck on the hour mark for the hosts when a misunderstanding between Henrique and Carrasso gifted Jimmy Briand with an open goal but his shot on the turn was hacked off the line by the returning Mariano and their goal advantage remained intact.
However, with injury-time being played, the game was turned on its head in three sensational stoppage time minutes.
Firstly, Bedimo and Briand combined well before the latter sent the ball beyond Carrasso for what seemed like the goal that would secure a point.
But then Miguel Lopes picked out Tolisso inside the area and he headed beyond Carrasso ahead of incredible scenes at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.
