A clinical brace from Gareth Evans extended Bradford's unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over Northampton.

Town reduced to 10 men as play-off hopes dwindle

A clinical brace from Gareth Evans extended Bradford's unbeaten run to five matches with a 2-0 win over Northampton. The victory for the Bantams all but ends the Cobblers' hopes of reaching the League Two play-offs as Evans' double proved enough for the home side. City were ahead after 12 minutes when the 22-year-old unleashed a 30-yard strike having controlled a headed pass from Adam Bolder. The Bradford striker turned sharply and powered home the opener which gave the visitor's goalkeeper Jason Steele no chance. Town suffered another blow just short of the half-time whistle when defender Dean Beckwith was sent off for pulling back Leon Osborne which denied the winger a goal-scoring opportunity. However despite being reduced to ten men, Town had a glorious chance to equalise when Northern Irish striker Billy McKay saw his effort rebound off the post just before half-time. The visitors continued to threaten despite City having the advantage, however Evans killed off any comeback in the final stages of the game. The forward combined again with team-mate Bolder to volley home an inch-perfect cross.
