Ronaldinho returns, as Leandro strike settles friendly contest

Brazil, with the recalled Ronaldinho in their starting XI, edged out ten-man Ghana 1-0 in a friendly at Craven Cottage on Monday. The Samba stars were far from their best on English soil, but picked up the win courtesy of Leandro Damiao's solitary strike. All of the attention prior to kick-off was focused on the returning Ronaldinho, with the former World Player of the Year making his first appearance for his country in 10 months. The 31-year-old has been in impressive form for Flamengo since returning to his homeland and was drafted back into the fold by coach Mano Menezes. Ronaldinho was unable to dictate the game, though, as two evenly-matched sides proceeded to cancel each other out.

Dismissal

The only goal of the match arrived on the stroke of half-time, with a defence-splitting ball from Fernandinho allowing Leandro to find the bottom corner. By the time the deadlock was broken, Ghana had already been reduced to ten men. Daniel Opare was given his marching orders on 32 minutes after picking up two yellow cards. Brazil struggled to make their numerical advantage count, while the Black Cats offered little as an attacking threat.
