Goalkeepers in fine form in goalless draw

Swansea City have slipped into ninth spot in the Championship despite claiming a battling goalless draw against Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Both sides had chances but Dorus De Vries in Swansea's goal and Bristol City stopper Adrian Basso were in fine form to keep the scoreboard operator quiet. The home side started well and should have been in front after only nine minutes when Cole Skuse picked out Stern John with a cross, but the Trinidad and Tobago striker headed over when he should have done better. Minutes later Michael McIndoe took aim from 20 yards but his shot was parried away by Dorus De Vries. Swansea slowly came into the game, and Jason Scotland latched onto Angel Rangel's pass and his shot beat Adrian Basso all ends up but whistled just past the post. However, the Swans suffered a blow midway through the half when Frederico Bessone was stretchered off and replaced by Alan Tate almost made an unwelcome introduction when he deflected McIndoe's free-kick towards goal but De Vries somehow kept the ball out.

Press for an opener

With half-time approaching, Ivan Sproule sent an ambitious effort wide as Bristol City continued to press for the opener. Swansea came flying out of the traps in the second half and Darren Pratley sent a shot wide before Tate's effort was well saved by Basso. Bristol City responded well and John headed McIndoe's cross towards goal but Ashley Williams was on hand to hack the ball away. At the other end Swansea found Basso in inspirational form and the Brazilian tipped Pratley's shot around the post, before producing another fine save to keep out Gorka Pintado's effort from the resulting corner. Both goalkeepers were in magnificent form and with nine minutes remaining John met McIndoe's free-kick but De Vries produced a magnificent save to keep the header out. Bristol City looked likely to win it late on and John and McIndoe both had shots blocked as Swansea dug in to claim a deserved draw.
