Fitness test for Elliott; Colace back from suspension

High-flying Burnley host Barnsley at Turf Moor on Boxing Day eyeing a fifth Championship victory in six matches. Burnley currently sit fourth in the table while Simon Davey's Tykes lie seven points above the relegation zone in 17th. Clarets manager Owen Coyle will check on the fitness of winger Wade Elliott ahead of the home clash. Elliott missed the 2-1 win at Bristol City on Saturday due to a foot injury and will be assessed ahead of the visit of Davey's men. Fellow midfielder Kevin McDonald was also absent from the Ashton Gate victory through injury and could remain sidelined as the Clarets seek to enhance their promotion credentials. Michael Duff, Chris Eagles and Chris McCann all shrugged off recent complaints to make key contributions to Saturday's victory and should again make the starting line-up. Striker Steve Thompson will hope to claim a starting berth after coming off the substitutes' bench to score the winning goal against the Robins.

Tykes team news

Barnsley will welcome Hugo Colace back into contention for the match in Lancashire following suspension. The Argentine midfielder missed Saturday's 2-0 win over Plymouth, but is expected to return to the squad at Turf Moor. Tykes manager Davey must decide whether to start with Colace or stick with defender Bobby Hassell, who switched to central midfield in his absence and turned in an impressive display. But Davey will still be without central defender Dennis Souza, who misses the Christmas fixture schedule due to a calf injury, while winger Martin Devaney (ankle) remains sidelined. Darren Moore (groin) came through unscathed after returning from a six-match injury lay-off last week and will partner Stephen Foster again at the heart of defence.
