Cardiff v Huddersfield preview

Team news ahead of Tuesday evening's Carling Cup second-round clash between Cardiff and Huddersfield at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is set to give Rudy Gestede a starting role in the game. The French striker, who was used as a second-half substitute against Burnley at the weekend, is likely to be given his full home debut despite bruising his knee during his cameo appearance. Mackay may be tempted to rest Joe Mason after the young striker was replaced after 69 minutes against Eddie Howe's side, while Robert Earnshaw, who scored his 200th career goal against the Clarets, and Scotland international Kenny Miller may also be left out. Midfielder Darcy Blake has recovered from a shin injury and, after featuring at Turf Moor, is set to be given a promotion from the bench. Huddersfield pair Gary Roberts and Gary Naysmith are both injury concerns. Winger Roberts (Achilles) and defender Naysmith (ankle) are nursing niggles following Saturday's home win over Colchester, while midfielder Anton Robinson was forced off midway through the second half due to cramp. Danny Ward replaced Roberts at half-time at the weekend and would be a straight replacement should the latter fail to make it. Manager Lee Clark could be tempted to include midfielder Damien Johnson, who is bidding to end his eight-month injury absence following knee surgery. Clark may also want to rest several other players. Defender Antony Kay and midfielder Scott Arfield stepped off the bench against Colchester and provide Clark with extra options. Goalkeeper Alex Smithies remains sidelined following knee surgery.
