Cumbrians ride their luck

Carlisle extended their unbeaten league run to five games with a 0-0 draw against Swindon at Brunton Park on Saturday.

United were fortunate to get away with a share of the points against a well-organised Swindon side. The visitors were left looking for their first win, although substitute David Ball and the normally reliable Charlie Austin should have stolen it with clear-cut second-half chances. Both defences were in charge during the first period, but Carlisle's Ivory Coast striker Francois Zoko looked to have eluded the Swindon defence only to be thwarted as he prepared to shoot. Swindon's danger man Austin found space on the right after Michael Timlin had picked him out with a raking cross field pass, but the forward dragged his shot across the face of goal. Carlisle continued to dominate possession, but Ball should have done better when he broke through the middle and lobbed the advancing goalkeeper Adam Collin. In added time Austin missed an absolute gift, which would have sealed all three points for the Robins, when he blazed over the crossbar from 10 yards.
