The final whistle blows and it's the Basel players who are all smiles after they cause a 2-1 away upset. That result did not look likely after Oscar's goal on the stroke of half-time but Basel responded well and made their chances count.
A chance for Eto'o but his first touch isn't brilliant and Voser gets back to make a challenge. The ball balloons up to Sommer.
Basel playing the clock down trying to pass it around but Eto'o wins back possession for the home team.
Chelsea heaping the pressure on in the final couple of minutes but the Basel defence stands firm. Oscar's shot is hit with venom, but straight at Sommer.
The home side a little shell-shocked by Basel's two swift goals and they suddenly look a little short of ideas in the final third.
A lull in play at Basel defender Schar is receiving treatment. The away side are down to 10 men currently.
GOAL STRELLER! Well this has been coming since Basel levelled. Basel captain Marco Streller gets his head onto the near-post corner and Cech fails to keep it out.
Chelsea opened up on the counter once again and Streller's shot is deflected just wide for a corner.
Chelsea have switched to two up front now and it seems to be taking a little while for the new system to come together, whereas Murat Yakin's side sense more goals.
Schar breaks dangerously and tries to slot it to Salah but Ivanovic just stops the vital pass finding its intended destination.
More danger from Basel and their tails are up now. Stocker just misses out on a through ball to Streller.
Ivanovic flying forward down the middle now but Basel are able to tackle him just before it becomes too dangerous.
GOAL SALAH! I can only apologise to Chelsea fans for tempting fate. Basel are level through the dangerman Mohamed Salah. A cross from the left finds it's way through to the winger and he, like Oscar, curls the ball perfectly low into the bottom corner.
Streller caught offside now at the other end. Basel really are struggling to mount a serious challenge on Cech's goal.
Eto'o almost in on goal as Lampard plays a first-time ball through, but Sommer is sharp off his line to smother the threat,
It's the first change of the match and Juan Mata gets his chance. He replaces Willian, who has had a quiet debut.

Cech forced into defensive duties with his head. He's calmly out to head a through ball clear of danger.
Oscar so close to a second it would have been a memorable one. He picks the ball up on the corner of the area, cuts inside and unleashes a bending effort which strikes the crossbar.
Good link up between Streller and Stocker sees the ball come to Safari down the right but he fluffs his cross into the stands.
Throw down the right for Basel but they opt to play it back to their centre-halves. The patient approach produces a corner as Cole puts Safari's cross behind.
Great from Oscar again in the middle of the park. He's extremely gifted on the ball, but he certainly knows how to fight for it when needed, too.
Eto'o is found by Cahill and he looks to have done enough to hold the ball up and create something, but is then muscled off it by Ivanov.
Foul on Willian near the half-way line and it's switched to the left. Oscar wins a throw in deep in the Basel half but the away team get it away.
A quick update from Sky Bet, who now understandably offer just 1/6 for the home win. Frank Lampard to score next at 9/1 looks a touch more tempting, while another Price Boost sees Eden Hazard to score next and Chelsea to win 3-0 at 50/1. Head to Sky Bet if you're interested.
Some half-time feedback now from Usman in Nigeria: "Can someone Jose to sign a centre half and move David Luiz to the midfield. To balance the books, he should sell Mikel. Luiz is a natural midfielder but a dreadful defender."
The feast of goals I was predicting before kick-off doesn't look like happening but Basel will have to have a go in the second half, which could result in a more open encounter.
The Oscar strike proved to be the last meaningful action of the opening 45 minutes and Chelsea head into the break a goal to the good. Deservedly so given their overall dominance in terms of possession. It was their first shot on target, but Mourinho will love that won't he?
GOAL OSCAR! In the final minute of the first half, Oscar breaks the deadlock. Lampard threads it through and the Brazilian finishes with aplomb to the bottom corner.
Hazard whips in a tempting cross from the left and it finds it's way to Cahill, whose shot from the edge of the box is really travelling, but it's blocked.
Yellow card for van Ginkel after he brings down Sio. Chance for Basel to get the ball into the Chelsea are from the resulting free kick on the left.
Streller tries to bundle his way through the Chelsea back line but Ivanovic is over doing the covering and he slams it out for a throw in.
Salah pops up on the left now but Oscar is back to help Ivanovic and Chelsea are going forward again.
Ivanovic causing mayhem bombing down the right and he comes inside before finding Hazard, whose flick goes to an off-side Willian. Better from Chelsea, but the Brazilian could have avoided the flag there.
The corner comes to nothing yet again but Chelsea are back in possession and keeping the ball moving.
Ivanovic gets forward down the right and his low cross is smacked behind by Schar. Another corner for the home side.
Oscar does brilliantly bursting through the middle but his attempted through ball towards Eto'o doesn't quite find its way to the Cameroon star.
A tough tackle from van Ginkel in the middle of the pitch, which is deemed a little too tough by the referee. No cards yet, though.
A half-chance for Basel and it's Salah down the right again. He's in space, cuts inside Luiz and tries to curl one to the top corner. However, it keeps rising and doesn't trouble Cech.
Eto'o finds Hazard on the edge of the area and his slight miscontrol opens up a shooting opportunity, but the Belgian blazes high and wide.
Lampard with a shot from range which goes well wide. Chelsea claim a deflection but the officials wave away the protests.
Plenty of skill and close control from the Chelsea midfielders but they're as yet unable to create antything clear-cut.
Big shout for a free kick in a very dangerous position as Hazard is blocked but the referee is having none of it.
Lampard tries to find Eto'o in the left channel and it results in a throw in deep in the Basel half.
A bit of a lull in play for the time being, with Chelsea once again happy to just keep the ball and wait for the away team to come out.
Chelsea very much having the lion's share of possession, but the longer it goes on Basel will fancy their chances of pinching something.
Luiz spraying the ball all over the place, as is his wont. He's almost playing as a holding midfield man.
Basel mount their first serious attack, with the bright Salah finding space down the right but Cahill blocks the cross, with Streller the target.
Oscar battles down the left and wins a corner, which he takes himself. There is a real scramble as Eto'o jumps with the keeper and Sommer is arguably a shade lucky to be awarded the free kick.
Sio finds Stocker on the left but Cole is at hand to make the clearance. Basel not committing men forward yet.
Eto'o into the action now and he wins a corner, which again is taken short. Basel clear but Chelsea soon win the ball back at Sio is tackled when attempting a break.
It's a solid enough start by Chelsea but Eto'o hasn't had much of it thus far and Chelsea will need to get their lone striker into the thick of things before long.
Hazard dropping a bit deeper now and making things tick, but Basel reasonably comfortable so far and seem happy enough to play on the break.
Another corner resulting from a good Willian run but it's played short and nothing materialises for the home side.
Salah does well when picked out by a long ball but Ashley Cole is not going to be easy to pass and the England man wins a free-kick after muscling the winger off the ball.
Chelsea having a lot of the ball and Willian wins another corner on the right. The delivery is much better this time but it's headed away.
Basel seem content to let Chelsea play the ball around in their own half for the time being, with the home side just probing away currently.

The away side get proceedings under way and Chelsea immediately win the ball in midfield, before Basel try to calm things down passing it around at the back.
The vastly experience Marco Streller could pose the Chelsea back-line most to think about, but it'll be interesting to see how his strike partner Giovanni Sio fares. The Ivory Coast international was brought in from Wolfsburg during the summer.
Juan Mata not starting games for Chelsea before the transfer window closed left many thinking he must have been in line for a move away from Chelsea. But it appears Mourinho just doesn't fancy the Spain international.
Daniel Cross is quite confident the home side will prove too strong for their opponents, as they were across two legs on their way to winning last season's Europa League. Daniel has emailed: "I think the Blues are going to put in a good showing tonight and will win 3-0. Willian to feature."
Gill Power isn't as happy as some with Jose Mourinho's team selection, saying: "Where's Fernando Torres??? He's the main man! Mourhino said he Is going to build his confidence and he drops him again..."
Chris Green from Huddersfield feels, like myself, the Swiss Super League champions could ruffle a few feathers if Chelsea aren't absolutely at their best. He says: "Despite Chelsea being at home this evening, I think this game could be a tough one. Basel may come from a weak league, but they'll certainly fancy their chances against the Blues if they have a good start. In football, any game can be a challenge, so if the Blues underestimate the Swiss, it may come back to haunt them."
Neil Cheesman sounds pretty happy with the line-up, commenting: "Fantastic to see experience AND youth in the Chelsea line and Jose showing the value of Lampard's experience... 3-0."
Sky Bet make Chelsea hot favourites at 4/11 to get off to a winning start in their Champions League campaign, with Basel 8/1 and the draw chalked up at 4/1. Our friends at Sky Bet also have a few Price Boosts for tonight's match including Samuel Eto'o to score first at 5/1 and Chelsea to win 2-1 at 9/1. I'm expecting goals at the Bridge and can certainly see the away side playing their part. A correct score of 2-2 is priced at 18/1, which could be worth a small interest. Head now to Sky Bet to place your pre-match and in-running bets.
