Chievo and Cagliari took a point apiece from a stalemate between two sides who have already achieved their objectives.

Chievo and Cagliari took a point apiece from a typical end-of-season stalemate between two sides who have already achieved their objectives for the campaign. By reaching 40 points, the Flying Donkeys are now practically safe with three games of the season remaining while, with three points more, Cagliari could be mathematically assured of another term in Serie A tomorrow. Both teams did try to bring a bit of life to the game in the first half, but, as the time wore on, the desire to come away with a harmless point prevailed. The first chance arrived after only a minute when Daniele Conti sent Sau through on goal, but Christian Puggioni was alert to the danger and ensured he was not caught out cold. At the other end, Nicolas Frey missed the target with Chievo's first tame attempt on goal. Boukary Drame went close to breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute with a shot on the turn which was on target, which was saved by Michael Agazzi, who did not have to worry about the rebound since Alberto Paloschi, who pounced, was in an offside position. Cyril Thereau tried to give some impetus to the Chievo attack midway through the second half, but he appeared to be leading a sole crusade as both teams seemed to settle for what they had as the clock ticked own. Only Radja Nainggolan could not resist the temptation to take a pot shot in the 87th minute, but, as the ball flew wide, any hopes the small crowd inside the Stadio Bentegodi had of seeing a goal vanished.
