Crewe hope striker Clayton Donaldson will be fit while Hereford have a fully-fit squad to select from.

Donaldson doubt for Railwaymen, Bulls at full strength

Crewe Alexandra boss Dario Gradi hopes striker Clayton Donaldson will be fit for their League Two opener at home to Hereford. The striker suffered a knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Wrexham last weekend. "It was a nasty whack and at the time it looked serious so he came off," said Gradi. "I think he has done a little bit of damage around the knee but the medical team have told me he has a chance of playing so we shall see." Donaldson has been playing alongside Calvin Zola and Shaun Miller as part of a three-pronged attack during pre-season. AJ Leitch-Smith and Byron Moore are on standby should Donaldson not make the start of the campaign. With Steve Phillips still recovering from shoulder surgery, on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Rhys Taylor is likely to make his debut with fellow summer signings Danny Blanchett, David Artell, Lee Bell and Adam Dugdale all competing for starts.

    Hereford news

Simon Davey has a fully-fit squad to select from for his first match as Hereford boss as his side kick off their League Two campaign at Crewe. Davey was brought in over the summer to replace the outgoing Graham Turner and has wasted no time in the transfer market, completely rebuilding United's squad with over 20 comings and goings. New signing Janos Kovacs has been appointed captain while the likes of Stuart Fleetwood, Joe Colbeck and O'Neil Thompson, among others, will be pushing for starting berths at Gresty Road. The loss of Marc Pugh and Gavin McCallum will surely be felt but Davey will be confident of getting off to a bright start against the Alex, and he will be keen to avoid a repeat of last season when the Bulls had to wait until December for their first league win on the road. Striker Mathieu Manset was the club's only injury concern earlier this week as he battled to overcome a knock but he has now returned to training and is expected to be in contention.
