Crewe v Macclesfield preview

Crewe will be hoping to continue their promising start to the season when they host Macclesfield.

Mitchel-King a doubt for home side; Draper set for fitness test

Crewe Alexandra will be hoping to continue their promising start to the season when they host Macclesfield Town on Saturday. Mat Mitchel-King is a doubt for Crewe's home game against Macclesfield in League Two. The summer signing from Histon had to be replaced after half-an-hour of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Stockport after sustaining a back injury. He is set for a scan to determine the extent of the problem. Simon Walton replaced Mitchel-King in midweek and the midfielder, who is on loan from Plymouth for the remainder of the season, should make his full debut if Mitchel-King does not make it. Clayton Donaldson is definitely out after scans revealed he broke a bone in his leg in the defeat at Bournemouth. The striker is expected to be missing for around two months. Goalkeeper David Button has rejoined the club on loan from Tottenham and he is expected to reclaim the number one jersey from Adam Legzdins. Youngsters AJ Leitch-Smith and Chris Clements are set to return form their loan spells with Icelandic club IBV on Friday but will not be included in the squad. They could come into the reckoning for the trip to Shrewsbury next weekend.

Visitors team news

Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander will assess the fitness of midfielder Ross Draper ahead of the trip to local rivals Crewe. Draper has been an ever-present for the Silkmen so far this season but the summer signing from Hednesford Town is nursing a stomach strain sustained in last weekend's 3-1 home defeat to Rotherham. He will undergo a fitness test closer to kick-off but is hopeful of being given the go-ahead to play. Striker Ben Wright missed the Rotherham game due to a groin strain and will also be assessed ahead of the Gresty Road showdown. Fellow frontman Kyle Wilson is similarly nursing a groin strain but looks almost certain to miss out along with Sean Hessey and Nat Brown, who both remain long-term injury absentees.
