Nottingham Forest came from behind with a stunning 81st minute equaliser from Andy Reid to claim a 2-2 draw after Manchester United loan star Federico Macheda had twice fired Doncaster in front.
It was a fair result in a cracking match between two sides committed to attack.
Macheda was unlucky not to finish on the winning side after rediscovering his scoring touch on his home debut.
But Forest never gave up the fight and were worthy of a point.
Forest set the pace at the start adopting a shoot-on-sight policy.
Andy Reid had a low 20-yarder saved and Jamie Mackie forced Ross Turnbull to move smartly to keep out another long range effort in the second minute.
But it was Rovers who created the first real chance following good work by Chris Brown in the ninth minute.
Brown made ground down the right before sending over a superb cross that only needed a touch to send it into the net but Theo Robinson miscued from close range.
It was a pulsating end-to-end tussle from the start and Mackie had a low shot saved after racing through on the right soon after.
A clever corner kick routine led to Reid having a fierce volley deflected in the 20th minute and then Macheda had a power drive saved at the other end.
Robinson threatened with a low shot that lacked pace before Doncaster took the lead in the 35th minute.
Midfield ace Ritchie Wellens played a great ball through to Robinson who fed Macheda and the Manchester United loanee finished in style with a low shot from just inside the box.
But the home side's joy was short lived when Forest hit back to equalize following a corner five minutes later.
Reid cleverly slipped the ball to Chris Cohen who hammered home a spectacular shot from the edge of the box.
Rovers tried to respond immediately but Jack Hobbs cleared off the line from Wellens following a great run by Macheda in the 43rd minute.
Rovers started the second half brightly and deservedly restored their lead with a goal of pure class following a brilliantly constructed move.
Robinson carved open the defence with a fine pass to Wellens who unselfishly crossed to the unmarked Macheda who slipped the ball home and was then booked for his over exuberant celebrations.
Robinson had a great chance to add a third but headed over in the 73rd minute and had cause for regret when Forest equalized with a goal out of the blue.
Reid latched on to a loose ball and thumped it home from 25 yards in stunning style giving home keeper Turnbull no chance.
