Stuttgart secured their fourth successive Bundesliga victory as they edged out bottom club Energie Cottbus. Fernando Meira scored the only goal of the game in the 30th minute to help the outgoing champions climb to sixth in the table. But Armin Veh's men remain some 13 points off the pace set by Bayern Munich at the summit and are far from certain of securing even a place in Europe next term. Cottbus have serious concerns of their own at the other end of the table, having won just three times all season, but despite this latest defeat they are just two points from safety.
